Exchange Currency Notes or Exchange Germs?

Exchange Currency Notes or Exchange Germs | Clean It Blog | Pax Hygiene

A recent Indian study of various paper currency notes and coins showed that almost all the samples were found to be contaminated with bacteria, fungus and parasites. Many of these are responsible for the spread of diseases like stomach infections, skin infections, and respiratory tract infections.

We overlook the fact that on a typical day, the currency notes & coins travel a lot and are handled by many people. For example, doctors, banks, shops, and street vendors all handle currency notes regularly, and any or all of these can spread infections via currency notes.

We cannot go around spraying currency notes with Sanitizers. But we can take a few basic precautions to protect ourselves.

First, never touch your eyes, nose or mouth after handling a currency note or a coin. Avoid counting notes by wetting fingers with your tongue. After handling any currency, always wash your hand with soap before handling food items. If hand washing is not possible, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
